There are over 120 species of pufferfish, but the three of them depicted on this vintage coastal print are enough to show all of their beauty. As true tropical fish, they come in a variety of colors, some with spikes and some without. Since they’re not fast swimmers their best defense is to puff up and look as unappetizing as possible.
This print is a great addition to an existing sea-inspired set or as a stand-alone piece. Clearly a vintage find, the illustration also incorporates French names of the fish, as they were created by famous Benard Direxit, as copper engravings, and published in his lauded work, Histoire Naturelle
