Description
Parsons & Atwater sketched and drew on stone this panoramic map of New York and Brooklyn with Jersey City and Hoboken waterfronts, which was published by Currier & Ives in 1875. The drawing offers a bird’s eye view of the area that was in a lot of turmoil during and immediately preceding that time, with riots, racial tension, and growth of disparity between the rich and the poor. At the same time, it was also a time when New York’s pre-eminent cultural institutions, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Metropolitan Opera, and the American Museum of Natural History were founded. This wonderful print will transport you to that time and serve as a perfect conversational piece.
